Do you sometimes sit alone and talk to yourself?
Does anyone sit alone and talk to himself?
No.
Talking happens only when there are at least two people.
We say something only if there is someone to listen to.
Now, why do we speak?
What is the purpose of speaking?
The purpose of speaking can be in four ways.
One, you will say something if you want to TELL someone
something.
Two, you may say
something if you want to ASK someone something.
Three, you may say something if you want to give a COMMAND
or make a REQUEST.
Four, you may say something if you want to EXPRESS your
FEELINGS.
So, when you say "I am a student", you are TELLING
something.
When you say "Who are you?" you are ASKING
something.
When you say "Stand up" you are giving a command.
When you say "Excuse me" you are making a request.
When you say "What a beautiful flower!" you are
expressing your feeling (excitement).
These are the purposes of speaking.
So we have different types of sentences like DECLARATIVE
SENTENCES, INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES, IMPERATIVE SENTENCES and EXCLAMATORY
SENTENCES.
