Attributes of a sentence:

I eat an apple.

An apple is eaten by me.

In the first sentence, the verb is in the active voice and in the second, it is in the passive voice.

I eat an apple.

Do I eat an apple?

The first sentence is assertive and the second is interrogative.

Attribute 2: Is the sentence assertive or interrogative or imperative or exclamatory?

I like apples.

I don't like apples.

The first sentence is an affirmative sentence and the second is a negative sentence.

Attribute 3: Is the sentence affirmative or negative?

He is my friend.

He was my friend.

He will be my friend.

In the first sentence, the tense is present, in the second, it is past and in the third, it is future.

Attribute 4: Is the tense present, past or future?

I eat an apple.

I am eating an apple.

I have eaten an apple.

I have been eating an apple.

In the first sentence, the tense form is SIMPLE, in the second, it is CONTINUOUS, in the third, it is PERFECT and in the fourth, it is PERFECT CONTINUOUS.

Attribute 5: Is the tense form simple, continuous, perfect or perfect continuous?

Do you like apples?

What do you like?

The first question can be answered in YES or NO. The second question cannot be answered in YES or NO.

Questions which can be answered in yes/no are called binary questions.

Questions which cannot be answered in yes/no are called subjective questions.

Attribute 6: If the sentence is a question, is it a binary question or a subjective question?

He eats junk food.

He eats too much.

In the first sentence, the verb 'eats' has an objecct. ('junk food' is the object.)

In the second sentence, the verb 'eats' has no object.

('too much' is adverb. It is not object.)

Attribute 7: Does the verb have an object?

(If a verb has an object, it means the verb is 'transitive'. If there is no object, the verb is 'intransitive'.)
