01. The earth is round.

02. We can make a model of the earth.

03. The model may be round or flat.

04. When a model of the earth, it is called globe.

05. When a model of the earth is flat, it is called a map.

06. The earth is a magnet.

07. It has two ends where magnetic power is strong.

08. These two ends are called poles.

09. So you have a top end which is called the north pole.

10. And a bottom end which is called the south pole

11. Around the arctic (north pole), there are some people living, they are called eskimos.

12. They build ice houses which are called igloos.

13. Life is very difficult at the poles because it's too cold.

14. So you won't find many people or plants or animals in the polar regions.

15. The line across the center of the earth is called the equator.

16. The poles are the coldest parts of the earth and the equator is the hottest part of the earth.

17. Countries which are near the equator have hot climate and countries which are away from the equator have cold climate.

18. So you can see why New York is cold and Singapore is hot.

19. The part of the earth above the equator is called the northern hemisphere.

20. The part of the world below the equator is called the southern hemisphere.
